Elgin Store Spotlight

Since acquiring the Elgin location in 2018 through the Dakota Farm acquisition, Gooseneck Implement has embraced the rich history and community spirit that this small town offers. With deep roots and a commitment to exceptional service, Elgin stands out not just for its operations, but for its people—many of whom have dedicated their lives to serving the community and the customers who rely on them.

Gary Winkler is a cornerstone of this commitment, having devoted 50 years to the Elgin community. His son, Steve Winkler, currently serves as the General Manager of the Elgin location, continuing the family legacy. Steve’s grandfather started the original store long before it became part of Gooseneck, establishing a foundation of service that has been passed down through generations. Growing up in the shop, Steve fondly remembers playing basketball with his friends while dreaming of the future.

This generational dedication extends beyond the Winkler family. Marvin Doll and Farron Hettich, both with over 30 years of service, contribute a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. Robert Mead, who has been in parts for 13 years, transitioned from Dakota Farm during the acquisition, showcasing his loyalty and expertise throughout the changes. Additionally, Robert Friesz started as an intern while still in high school and has also spent 12 years growing with the store, further exemplifying the nurturing environment that Elgin fosters.

This team of long-term employees not only enhances customer service but also cultivates a family-oriented atmosphere where relationships matter. They understand that it’s not just about machinery; it’s about people. Whether delivering parts or troubleshooting equipment, the crew goes the extra mile for their customers, believing that their success is intertwined with the community they serve. Recently, a customer expressed awe when the team replaced an engine in the field, significantly decreasing downtime – a true testament to their dedication and expertise.

The strong sense of community is evident in its diverse customer base, which includes ranchers, farmers, and residents of nearby towns. The team is well-acquainted with their customers’ needs and prides itself on building lasting relationships.

Elgin actively participates in local events like 4H auctions, FFA sponsorships, and rodeos, ensuring they’re not just a business, but a community partner. They are also known for their generous support of local initiatives, whether it's helping a neighbor in need or sponsoring local sports teams. The fact that over half of the staff serve on the volunteer fire department speaks volumes about their dedication to the community.

Today, Elgin is not just a store; it's a hub of support and service in a small town in Grant County. Their generations of dedication, commitment to training, and deep community connections truly exemplify the Gooseneck spirit. As they continue to honor their past while looking toward the future, Elgin remains a shining example of what it means to be part of the Gooseneck family.
